Things to do in the Jewellery Quarter this Autumn

Here is a round-up of October events taking place across the Jewellery Quarter.

Pumpkin Spectacular

Tuesday October 31st/3pm – 7pm

Experience the enchanting Catacombs Circle adorned with a mesmerizing pumpkin display, back for a 4th year!
Fun for All Ages! Don’t miss out on this fantastic Halloween extravaganza! Including pumpkin carving station, activities by local makers and organisations, seflie stations for your halloween costumes and guided catacomb tours and so much more.
This event is free to attend, but some activities may have a small charge

Stepping Through the Past: Gothic Walking Tour of the Jewellery Quarter and Coffin Works’ Museum

Sunday 8th October /1pm-4.45pm

Take a walk on the dark side and explore the Gothic side of the Jewellery Quarter,  with a walking tour that takes in two Victorian cemeteries and The Coffin Works Museum with tour guide Ian Braisby. Enjoy the chance to explore the last 100 years of working class, industrial history. Tickets are £25 per person and include both tours plus a cuppa and cake in the Coffin Works café.

Clay Making Workshop at BHP Collectables

Monday 9th October/ 4pm – 6pm

Explore Your Creative Side at the Clay Making Workshop. Experience the magic of clay sculpting at BHP Collectables with the renowned artist, Rachel Akers.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this workshop is perfect for anyone looking to explore the world of clay. Rachel Akers, renowned for her unique style, will guide you through the process of creating your own masterpiece. Tickets £32 per person including all materials.

Five Years of Cocreation Exhibition at The Hive JQ

Tuesday to Friday until the end of November/10am – 3.30pm (last admission 3pm)

Immerse Yourself in History: Dive into a five-year journey of creativity and collaboration at The Hive’s special exhibition. Engage with Community Partnerships: Discover how The Hive has been transformed by vibrant community collaborations. Engage with projects that sparked creativity, encouraging fresh ideas and innovative approaches. Witness the Exchange of Skills: Explore a curated selection of projects that highlight the power of skill-sharing and co-creation.
This exhibition is free to attend.

Fleetwood Mac tribute – Landslide Live at The Actress and Bishop

Friday 6th October /8pm-10pm

A must for all Fleetwood Mac fans! Catch the incredible Landslide they play the amazing music of Fleetwood Mac live at The Actress & Bishop. The band includes 5 experienced musicians with decades of extensive touring experience and a set list going back from the early blues of Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer all the way to Rumours and beyond. Tickets £10 in advance.

Stryx for Kids

Saturday 7th October, 12noon-3pm

Every first Saturday of the month in their Jewellery Quarter gallery Stryx run a free family workshop ‘Stryx for Kids’.
For October they have a suitably Halloween flavoured event with artist Ed Wakefield. They will be carving pumpkins (depending on availability), with a suggested donation of £2.
If the pumpkins are off being spooky elsewhere, we will be making Halloween masks! Watch this space for further announcements.

 

Drawing the Jewellery Quarter Workshop- RBSA Gallery

Friday 20th October /11am – 4pm

Drawing the Jewellery Quarter Workshop with Abbie Severn GRBSA. Document the JQ streets in this on-site drawing workshop.
Involving a variety of techniques of mark making and experimental drawing, to capture the streets, using a sensory response layered with the physicality. Creating an intriguing process piece and a final outcome drawing. This all day workshop costs £60-65.

Tru Groove at the Jam House

Friday 13th October/ 8pm-12am

Experience the sensational vocals of Tasita Trotman and Ricardo Williams, accompanied by impeccable musical arrangements. The Jam House is set to be transformed into a whirlwind of music and energy! Get ready for a night filled with club hits, timeless soul classics, and R’n’B jams from legendary artists like Calvin Harris, Chaka Khan, and Stevie Wonder. Entry is free beofre 8pm, £5 before 10pm and £8 after.

GULP x HONEY & RYE: Autumnal Supper Club

Friday 20th and Thursday  26th October

Join Honey & Rye’s Annabelle Davis, and GULP’s founder Kaye Winwood for an unforgettable edible journey through autumn. This supper club with a twist is the perfect way to celebrate the fruits of autumn, with a menu designed to bring the flavours of the season to life! 6 course menu for £60.

Rioja Tasting at Arch13

Thursday 12th October – 7pm

October is all about Rioja! As Brits, we love a Rioja. In fact, the UK is one of the top export markets for Rioja, so it’s a safe bet to say that most wine lovers have had a rioja or two in their lifetime. But do you know your Crianzas from your Reservas? And what about the wonderful world of white Rioja?

If you find yourself stumped when it comes to which Rioja to pick up off the shelf then this is the tasting for you. Ed is hosting The Tasting Table for a night of tasting, Tempranillo, and talk.
Tickets £20.

1000 Trades presents Political Therapy: Jess Philips in Conversation with Richard Parker

Thursday 5th October at 8pm

How can Labour win in 2024? It’s the biggest test so far for Starmer’s leadership and the only poll that really matters. Can Labour get over the line, and how should it govern if it does. Is radicalism a dirty word or is it the only way to win a convincing mandate? Jess Phillips has been Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley since 2015, a fearless champion of the underrepresented and marginalised in society before and since. Richard Parker is the Labour candidate for West Midlands Mayor, taking on Andy Street in 2024.
