Paradise Circus closure – 3rd September 2018 until Summer 2019

The West Midlands Combined Authority has embarked upon an ambitious plan to regenerate the region and to provide new opportunities for residents and businesses.

Central to this plan is the expansion of the Metro network which will triple in size by 2026 providing high quality, safe and dependable Metro travel across much of the region.

The Midland Metro Alliance has been appointed by West Midlands Combined Authority to deliver the Metro extensions throughout the region. When complete, the Birmingham Westside Metro Extension will allow people to travel easily between the city centre to Edgbaston via Broad Street and Hagley Road. Work on this much anticipated extension commenced in summer 2017 around Victoria Square and the next phase, along Broad Street and some surrounding roads, is currently underway. Although we aim to minimise disruption wherever possible for public transport users, road users, businesses and residents, the works do require traffic changes to be implemented.

As part of this project, the Midland Metro Alliance must connect the Metro line from Paradise Street to Centenary Square. In order to carry this work out in the swiftest way, Paradise Circus Queensway will be closed in both directions from Monday 3 September until summer 2019. The A38 underpass will remain open in both directions for the duration of the works. There will be traffic marshals in place 24/7 to allow access to Holiday Street from Paradise Queensway to help ease congestion and to allow vehicle delivery access. Centenary Square will also be closed to all vehicles with the majority of public transport diverted via Sheepcote Street and Bath Row.
