The workshops and masterclasses take place across the day on Sunday, June 23, featuring a broad selection of knowledge-expanding and practical sessions designed for the whole trade. A total of 29 workshop sessions will run throughout a packed day of learning and knowledge sharing.

Workshop highlights include…

two-hour deep dive into how to identify natural and synthetic diamonds with standard instruments from diamond expert Branko Deljanin.

Gem-A’s Charles Bexfield shares his story about helping set up the first gemmological school in Ethiopia.

Graeme Thompson will help attendees understand coloured diamonds. Graeme has over twenty years of experience in the jewellery industry, working for some of the world’s most prestigious auction houses, including Bonhams and Phillips.

Kerry Gregory provides a practical course on gemmological observation. The biggest part of any gem identification should be done by getting to know the stone in front of you. This is a quality relationship, not speed dating!

Social media and how to market your valuation business are also catered for with two workshops. Sammantha Maclachlan reveals the social media tricks for valuers, while gemmologist, Lezlie Bailey, delivers a workshop on Jewellery Photography for Beginners.

Finally, the Valuers’ Conference will close with a plenary panel session exploring the current and upcoming challenges facing jewellery valuations. From rocketing gold prices to Russian diamond sanctions, this closing session, also open to Retail Jewellers’ Congress attendees, will round off a full learning schedule.
