School is out and Summer 2019 is well and truly underway! If you’re looking for family-friendly activities closer to home then there’s plenty to keep you busy in the Jewellery Quarter throughout the holidays. We have compiled our favourite list of Top 10 Jewellery Quarter Family Activities for 2019 below. As always, you can browse the full list of JQ events on our What’s On page.

 

1. The Blue Orange Theatre – “Madagascar A Musical Adventure JR“, August 28 and 29

Join the beloved characters from Madagascar for this live musical production suitable for all ages!

 

2. The Hive – Workshop Wednesday – July 31 and August 7, 14, 21 and 28

Housed in a historic JQ building, The Hive heritage hub is offering facilitated craft sessions every Wednesday from 10:00 – 12:45. Learn a new skill and create something beautiful together to take home and cherish. Full prices and booking details can be found online. Why not stop by for some delicious lunch at The Hive Cafe at the same time!

 

3. The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter  – Family Fun Day – August 8, 15 and 22

Visit the museum for a fun-filled afternoon of family-friendly guided tours and craft activities. Spaces are limited so be sure to pre-book.

 

4. Escape Live

Bring the whole family to one of their 4 unique escape rooms, best of all kids go free! Be sure to read the T&C’s for all the details before booking.

 

5. The Coffin Works – Family Friendly Tour and Crafts – August 4, 11 and September 1

Enjoy a shorter child-friendly tour of the museum followed by a fun craft activity inspired by the factory tools and processes. You can even dress-up as a factory worker on your tour!

 

6. Enjoy St Paul’s Church and Square

At the heart of the JQ stands St Paul’s Church and environs, a green oasis in the middle of the city! Let the kids run free over the green hills or bring a picnic to make a day of it. Pop into the Church to cool down and admire this Grade I listed building (open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays).

 

7. The Chocolate Quarter

What’s better than a candy shop? A chocolate shop! At the JQ’s very own chocolatier you can browse a huge range of hand-made chocolate products or even book your very own chocolate making experience.

 

8. The Pen Museum – World Calligraphy Day – August 14

Come along to World Calligraphy Day at the Pen Museum and celebrate the art of calligraphy and hand lettering. Whether you’re an expert, a beginner who’s just getting started or simply an admirer of beautiful writing, come and meet some amazing artists.

 

9. Lunch in a local JQ venue

The JQ is famous for its many restaurants and coffee shops most of whom are very family-friendly. Pop into places like Coffee Tales, Urban Coffee, Saint Kitchen, Locanta, The Rose Villa Tavern for dedicated kids menus.

 

10. The Jewellery Quarter Heritage Trail

Are your family member urban explorers? Download a copy of the JQ Heritage Trail and take to the streets for a closer look at some of the Quarter’s best-known landmarks as well as a few hidden gems. The trail can also be picked up from local museum’s as well as the Birmingham Central Library.
