Learn about the history of the area and the “City of 1000 Trades” at the local museums. The Pen Museum describes the history of the steel pen trade in Birmingham and will be celebrating World Calligraphy Day on August 15. There is a host of engaging exhibits including writing with a pen nib or feather – you can even have a go at making your pen nib using the original machinery.

The Coffin Works is a time-capsule with its original working machinery and factory stock left on the shelves. Join the family-friendly Casting Creations activity on the 16 August. Fred the factory cat is the star of the museum’s family trail, with a hidden cat and clues to find.

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is pulling out all the stops with a Family Fun Day on 16 and 23 August! Take a family-friendly guided tour of the Smith & Pepper jewellery factory followed by a fun craft activity.
