JEWELLERY QUARTER CHRISTMAS HAMPER APPEAL

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Businesses from the Jewellery Quarter have come together at various points throughout the year to raise money and donate gifts for charity and this Christmas has been no different.

The Jewellery Quarter Development Trust has led the way by launching an appeal that will help families within the Ladywood Ward, one of the poorest in the UK and whose residents may not be celebrating Christmas this year.

The aim was to raise enough funds to fill 100 Christmas ‘Hampers’ with essential treats. After one week the total number of hampers sponsored soared to 150 (£3,225) with 20 of these being supplied free of charge by TESCO.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Sir Albert Bore commented, “In these days of austerity and financial constraint, it would be easy to write charitable donations off as a “luxury” for more affluent times, and concentrate on providing for those closest to you.  Thank goodness then for the generosity of local businesses and community groups in Ladywood, working together to provide much needed hampers for hard hit families who will have a big surprise this Christmas.  Thank goodness for contributions that have been rolling in to help run parties for children in the ward, and thank goodness for donations of gifts and prizes that will really help to make Christmas special for the most needy families in Ladywood this year.  It is said that adversity brings out the best in people…and in Ladywood more than ever that appears to be the case.  If you would like to donate something, please contact Fellows Auctioneers”

The parcels will be ‘assembled’ by senior members of the JQDT and the team at Fellows at 2pm on Tuesday 10th December at Fellows and delivered to Ladywood Community Centre on 11th December.

Although the initial target has been reached, the aim is to spread a little Christmas cheer to as many families as possible.  If you would like to get involved please contact Qucie Green on 0121 212 5500.
