Stanley’s Jewellers, a family run business based in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, has donated 30 chains to St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, after hearing about the tragic loss of the young boys that fell into Babbs Mill Lake.

“We remember being in the shop and hearing about the tragedy on the radio. It really hit home, especially as my son went to a nearby school” said Sam Batchelor, one of the Directors of Stanley’s Jewellers.

Emma McSheffrey, School Secretary from St Anthony’s school approached Stanleys Jewellers a few weeks ago to source some mementos to present to the year 6 leavers to remember their time with them after such a difficult year.

Jack was one of the young boys that was involved in the incident and was a beloved classmate of the year 6 leavers.

Emma explained “We managed to source some medals with St Anthony on one side and St Francis on the other. This was really apt as Jack was dubbed the St Francis of his class because of his love for animals”.

Headteacher, Cieran Flaherty, thanked Stanley’s Jewellers, “Acts like yours lift us all, and in the dark, there are glimmers of light like this. Thank you for bringing a bit of light to us all”.

Sam made a further comment, “Donating the chains felt like we were helping in some small way. It’s everyone pulling together in these difficult times that gets you through”.
