Business Development Midlands Ltd (BDM), a government-approved apprenticeship provider based in the Jewellery Quarter, is working in partnership with the Jewellery Quarter BID (JQ BID) to offer a fantastic opportunity for businesses in the area.

BDM has a proven track record in supporting companies with their sales and marketing strategies. As part of the initiative, businesses in the Quarter will be able to take on apprentices to implement these sales and marketing strategies, with free pre-placement training and a grant to support their employment costs.

Young people aged between 19 and 24, who are currently looking for employment, will have the opportunity to undertake a four week pre-apprenticeship course where they will be given a grounding in sales and marketing skills to a formal accreditation level.

As part of this four-week training package, which is at no cost to the businesses taking part, the apprentices will spend a minimum of one week in the workplace. Once this has been completed, companies have the opportunity to employ the apprentice with the help of a £1,500 grant.

However, if businesses feel they can’t commit to a full time position, they can opt for a three-month work trial where they will be required to pay the three months apprenticeship wage.

Keith Stanley, operations director for the Jewellery Quarter BID, said: “Apprenticeships are a positive way to introduce young people into work in the current economic climate. I sincerely hope that Jewellery Quarter businesses are able to provide placements throughout the BID area.”

BDM will work with Jewellery Quarter businesses to ensure that it is a smooth process to achieve the desired result of a skilled sales and marketing employee who can help businesses move forward and increase their bottom line.
