Birmingham-based ACME Whistles nominated for top award at event highlighting the best of the UK manufacturing sector

Following a successful 2015 event, the UK Manufacturing Awards is returning for its second year in 2016. The brainchild of Birmingham-based manufacturer RH Nuttall Limited, the event is designed to recognise the very best the UK manufacturing sector has to offer.

Nominations are based on two pieces of criteria: each entrant must be UK-based and demonstrate the ability to create consistently high quality products and materials.

Last year’s tightly-contested event was won by luxury turntable manufacturer, Rega.

“The 2016 UK Manufacturing Awards is designed to shine a light on our industry and highlight everything that is great about the UK manufacturing sector,” said a spokesperson from RH Nutall. “We’ve seen every headline the press can throw at us, whether it be talk of imminent bust or the suggestion that outsourcing to foreign lands is taking precedence over local recruitment, but we know this industry is as strong as it ever was.”

Nominees for the 2016 Manufacturing Awards will be judged by a panel featuring some of the most respected and experienced figures in the sector, including James Bradshaw of British Family and Made in Britain’s John Pearce.

Nestled amongst the nominations this year is Birmingham-based whistle manufacturer, Acme Whistles. Founded in the 1870s by Joseph Hudson, Acme Whistles is the world’s largest and most famous producer of whistles and is headquartered in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
