Increasing footfall to kick off Christmas in the Quarter
Our annual Christmas Lights Switch On event marks the start of the holiday season with an evening of music, food and drink as well as a spectacular firework display. Rated in the Telegraph in 2019 as one of the best switch on events in the country, the event draws crowds from far and wide to kick off the festive season.
After a hiatus in 2020, the 2021 JQBID Switch On was back and saw the Birmingham Commonwealth Games’ official mascot, Perry the Bull, turn on over 100 lights, including two bespoke lighting installations. In 2022, it was the turn of Chef Dan Lee, winner of Masterchef the Professionals whose food is now a permanent fixture at JQ venue Hockley Social Club.
The most recent event on 17th November 2023 saw over 2000 people flock to Golden Square to watch Black Country comedian Doreen Tipton turn on the lights in proper panto style in costume as Doreen the Cow from Jack in the Beanstalk.
