Things to do in September in the Jewellery Quarter

Summer is coming to an end and as we approach Autumn, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer however there is still plenty going on in the Jewellery Quarter for you to enjoy. See a play with friends, enjoy a candle lit concert with a loved one or learn a new skill at a workshop; there is always something for you to do.

Birmingham Heritage Week

Starting on Friday 6th September and running up to Sunday 15th September, Birmingham Heritage Week is celebrating 10 years this month. There is so much to do in the Jewellery Quarter during the festival from Architect Tours at the Coffin Works, to Catacomb and Cemetery Tours, to Afternoon Tea the the Assay Office. Blue Orange Theatre

Emily Chappell’s Epic Tales of Cycling Adventure shows the inspirational adventurer and endurance cyclist telling stories from her epic travels and remarkable life story. This is an evening for adventurers, armchair adventurers and anyone interested in exactly how someone can drastically change their path through life, several times over.

The showing for this is on Tuesday 10th September at 7:30pm – 9:30pm. Standard tickets are £14 however the first 20 tickets are £12 each  so book now!

St. Paul’s Church JQ

St. Paul’s JQ is pleased to welcome back Fever with another Candlelight Concert – this time, a Tribute to Adele. Sit back and enjoy some of her most iconic songs, such as Hello, Rolling in the Deep, Skyfall and Set Fire to the Rain. This event will take place on Friday 20th September at 7:00pm – 9:00pm, doors will open 45 minutes prior. Book your tickets here.

St. Paul’s JQ have another Candlelight Concert planned this month, “Rings and Dragons”. This one will see the Artume String Quartet playing themes from the likes of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon and Lord of the Rings, this one is a must if you have a love for fantasy. This concert is taking place on Friday 20th September (straight after the previous one) at 9:00pm – 10:30pm. Book your tickets here.

Stryx

Stryx for Kids is their monthly kids workshop but this month there have something a bit different; the Creepy Crawly Creation Station with Ellie Rolfe. Using 3D pens, your kids can colour and make each part of a bug based off stencils provided and then piece them together to finish an awesome 3D Creature. This event will take place on Saturday 7th September from 11:00am – 2:00pm and is free entry. Book your spot here.

Burning Soul Brewing

Every Saturday this month, join Burning Soul Brewing for a brewery tour and a couple of sample beers in their Taproom. The tour will include two schooners of beer (Schooner is 2/3rds of a pint! ) whilst you chat and talk though their processes and hopefully have a little fun at the same time. The tour finishes with a complimentary veggie samosa! Tickets are £11 and the event will take place at 3:00pm – 4:00pm. Book your tickets here.

Pen Museum

This month the Pen Museum has two Calligraphy Classes planned, one with Jane Lappage and one with Sheila Smith. The Modern Calligraphy Workshop with Jane Lappage costs £60 and will run from 10:00am – 4:00pm on Sunday 8th September. On this course you will get hands on with the new fun, quick way to learn calligraphy using fine point nib.

The Calligraphy Classes with Sheila Smith costs £12 and will run from 12:00pm – 1:30pm and 2:00pm – 3:30pm on Sunday 29th September. In this class, you will learn “Quirky” Roman; Roman letters with a modern twist for those interested in producing their own card, invitations etc.
