Things to do in June in the Jewellery Quarter

June in the Jewellery Quarter continues to be another busy month, with 100 days of creativity still in full swing, you won’t run out of things to do. Whether you want to hang out with friends, learn a new skill or keep the kids occupied, there is something for everyone.
Gulp
Matt O’Callaghan is back again this month with another Pasta! Pasta! workshop. Taking place on Saturday 15th June, this unique experience is much more than just pasta-making, participants will gain new skills, eat delicious food and meet like-minded food lovers! The event will start at 11:00am and finish at 3:00pm as once the learning is over, participants will cook their pasta and eat lunch together in Gulp’s beautiful dining room.
Stryx
Stryx are still offering their Creative Stay and Play for children aged 0-5, which takes place every Friday from 1:30pm – 3:00pm. The sessions will work as a community-based setting that offers a structured yet relaxed environment where parents can connect with one another and share experiences (over a cup of tea!) while their children can play and access self managed creative activities.
They are also hosting two monthly art workshops with the first one called Stryx for Kids. It will take place on Saturday 1st June and is free entry, so pop in and out at whatever time suits you. The second workshop is called Stryx 3A and is targeted to people aged 50+ but all adults are welcome. It will take place on Saturday 15th June and is also free entry.
Blue Orange Theatre
Blue Orange Theatre will be showing Oh! What a Lovely War on Thursday 6th June at 7:00pm with doors opening at 6:00pm. Joan Littlewood’s pioneering musical, brings to life the folly, farce and tragedy of the First World War. Standard tickets are £10.00.
St Paul’s Church JQ
St Paul’s are continuing their FREE lunchtime concerts with the next one taking place on Thursday 13th June at 1:00pm. This one will see Simone Damiani and Paola Cadarelli as a violin and piano duo. They will also be hosting Princess Concert: Enchanted Afternoons on Saturday 29th June at 11:30am – 7:30pm. Join them for a magical afternoon and let your little prince and princesses immerse themselves in a world of enchantment. Get your tickets here!
The Pen Museum
The Pen Museum are continuing their mission to teach everyone beautiful penmanship with another calligraphy workshop run by Sheila Smith taking place on Sunday 30th June. Session one will be between 12:00pm – 1:30pm and session two will be between 2:00pm – 3:30pm. Tickets are £12.00.
The Coffin Works
If you feel like travelling back in time, then why don’t you join The Coffin Works for their Stepping Through the Past: Victorian Birmingham Walking Tour. Learn all about Birmingham’s golden age in the 19th Century and discover how this Victorian factory developed into the world-class business it has become. The tour will be held on Sunday 16th June at 1:00pm. Tickets include a walking tour as well as a cuppa and cake in the Coffin Works’ Casting Shop Café and will be £25 per person.
RBSA Gallery
The RBSA Summer Show will run from June 13Â –Â July 21 and is an open call exhibition that welcomes submissions from artists working in any media. However, unlike their first exhibition which was only open to artists from within a 30-mile radius of the city, this time the RBSA will receive entries from artists based all around the world. The RBSA Summer Show will take place over all three floors of the Gallery, making it their largest open call exhibition of the year. With almost 250 artworks on display, the Summer Show is a celebration of a wide variety of media and techniques showcasing work by artists of enormous talent.
