Each year, the JQBID takes part in Birmingham Heritage Week to promote the Jewellery Quarter’s fascinating heritage to the public.
Birmingham Heritage Week is an event run by Birmingham Museums Trust. For the past six years, the JQBID has supported and partnered with Birmingham Heritage Week through sponsorship and the running of numerous events. Birmingham Heritage Week is an extremely important event for the Jewellery Quarter to increase footfall and promote awareness of the area’s history. Each year, our dedicated webpage is updated with the programme of events for the Jewellery Quarter which is promoted and marketed through the JQBID’s channels.
2023
In 2023, there were over 40 events taking place in the Jewellery Quarter, making it one of the busiest areas of the city. In fact, behind the scenes tours of Assay Studios which JQBID organised with TCN were the first events on the BHW website to sell out in a record 15 minutes! Support from JQBID funded the return of the ever popular Hands On Conservation Workshop with Oliver Architecture for a 3rd year, and helped many organisations in the area put on and promote their events.
2022
In 2022, the JQID organised a unique behind the scenes and historical tour of the newly refurbished Jointworks on Albion Street and an online virtual tour of the Jewellery Quarter with tour guide Ian Braisby, along with bringing back favourite events including the Kathleen Dayus tours. The JQBID also offered support to a number of organisations across the JQ with their events including assisting the Friends of Key Hill and Warstone Lane Cemetery to run catacomb tours.
2021
In 2021 the JQBID has worked with Cordia Blackswan to bring a talk and tour on the development of Great Hampton Street. Other events included a Kathleen Dayus Tour and a photography meet-up with Igers of Birmingham. Together with the Jewellery Quarter Townscape Heritage Project and Jewellery Quarter Cemeteries Project, the JQBID ran a total of 8 events that year. Working with a PR agency and local media company, Birmingham TV, the JQBID extended the reach of the Jewellery Quarter’s heritage offering for 2021.

2020
In 2020, with the pandemic putting a stop to all in-person events, the JQBID promoted all of the JQ heritage virtual events that were taking part during the week. The webpage (https://jewelleryquarter.net/heritage-week/) was the central platform for all Jewellery Quarter activity.
2018 and 2019
In 2018, the JQBID published a promotional leaflet that collated over 25 events taking place in the Jewellery Quarter and in 2019 the JQBID became the main sponsor. Aligning the Jewellery Quarter to Birmingham Heritage Week allowed the JQBID to continue its promotion of the area as a destination to come and visit and explore. 2019 also saw the JQBID organise a number of local walking tours.
