JQ Suit Drive ask for local donations
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The third Jewellery Quarter Suit Drive is asking for local businesses and residents to donate smart clothing to help unemployed men and women make that crucial first impression.
If clearing out your wardrobe in the New Year was not already on your to-do-list, this is the perfect time to de-clutter your closet while making a big difference to someone else. The JQ Suit Drive will run from 14th January to 18th February and donations can be dropped off at The Big Peg reception (120 Vyse St., B18 6NF) from Monday to Friday between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Items to donate include lightly worn suits, shirts, skirts, trousers, jackets, blouses, dresses, shoes and accessories. All donations will go to Suited for Success who help unemployed people with interview skills and clothes to ensure they have all the tools to make the right first impression.
The campaign has been organised in partnership between the Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (JQBID), Suited for Success, The Big Peg and GoodGym Birmingham who have come together to support this charity drive in the Jewellery Quarter. This is the third JQ Suit Drive and the aim is to beat the total from 2018 when over 200 items of clothing were kindly donated by the local community.
Luke Crane, Executive Director of the JQBID said: “Supporting and raising awareness for our local charities is a key objective at the JQBID. The work done by Suited for Success is instrumental in making sure everyone has an equal opportunity to nail that job interview despite their differing, and often difficult, circumstances. We are confident that the local Jewellery Quarter community will be as generous as they’ve been in previous years and we can’t wait for the donations to start arriving.”
Suited for Success is a registered UK charity who provide free high-quality interview clothes, styling and interview skills for unemployed men and women who have a confirmed job interview. All clients are given a one-to-one appointment to receive interview coaching and are dressed and styled by volunteers giving them the confidence to succeed.
Patricia White, Suited for Success Chief Executive commented: “We’re really excited to be working with the JQBID and GoodGym again on this project. The donations raised will make a big difference to support the unemployed men and women we work with to succeed in a job interview, gain employment and change lives”.
Volunteers from the local running group GoodGym Birmingham will be sorting and carrying all donations to the Suited for Success headquarters as part of their regular weekly charity activities. GoodGym is a running group with a difference that combines regular running and exercise with volunteering and helping local communities.
Jonathan Carter, GoodGym Birmingham Run Leader said: “Suited for Success is one of our regular charities and we’re always happy to bring more donations to them. GoodGym is all about getting fit while doing good by helping the local community. The work they do at Suited for Success is amazing, thank you in advance to the Jewellery Quarter community for coming out to support them.”
Tara Elwell, Sales & Marketing Manager for The Big Peg said: “The Big Peg is delighted to support the JQ Suit Drive and encourage the local community to get involved and donate. Reception will be accepting donations Monday to Friday 0830 to 1730 hours.”
