The arrival of the German Market and the Birmingham Christmas light switch-on is fast approaching and will be marked with a special Christmas Parade on Saturday to get Birmingham into the festive spirit.
A dedicated float, that will represent the Jewellery Quarter, has been sponsored by the JQ BID to appear in the annual parade. This year’s procession theme is ‘Christmas Through The Ages’ and eight floats will explore different Christmas celebrations starting from the birth of Jesus and ending with the modern da y.
Garry Jones, a carnival and community artist from ‘Off Our Trolley’, who’s worked with Ikon Gallery and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, has designed the impressive Jewellery Quarter float in the theme of the 1950s. The display has been created to resemble a large jewellery box with local band, The Sodapops, gracing the podium to add a touch of vintage glamour during a musical performance.
A number of students from Jewellery Quarter-based Abbey College Birmingham will also be volunteering during the evening that is expecting a crowd of 20,000.
The Christmas Parade will make its way through Birmingham city centre from Colmore Row on Saturday 8th November starting from 5.30pm.
