For the first time in over 25 years, authentic Balti bowls are being manufactured again in Birmingham. The Birmingham Balti Bowl Company has been set up to produce bowls in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, in partnership with AE Harris, one of the Jewellery Quarter’s longest established manufacturers. The bowls are made to a high quality specification using pressed steel, just like the original 1970’s bowls, which gave birth to this iconic dish. 

The idea of bringing the production of the bowls back to Birmingham was the brainchild of Balti Historian and guru, Andy Munro who comments “The essence of a proper Balti, is the way it’s fast cooked and served, so now curry lovers everywhere can make an authentic Balti at home. From my years working in the Quarter, I knew AE Harris as a firm who were always keen to innovate and tackle new markets so it was a natural progression to approach them with the idea. AE Harris were extremely receptive to developing the product and additionally and uniquely we have engraved the bowls with the legend ‘Birmingham BaltiBowl Co’ so there will be no doubt that the bowls have been made in the City where the famous Balti began.”
