First festival celebrating design arrives in Birmingham

A brand new city-wide festival kicks off this week with an ambitious programme of talks and events celebrating the dynamic design industry of Birmingham.
Over the course of four days, Birmingham Design Festival (Thursday 7 – Sunday 10 June) will provide an eclectic range of free and paid events open to both novices and design professionals exploring the past, present, and future of design in the city.
The festival is centered on three main Design Districts (listed below), with workshops, talks, and exhibitions on similar themes.
- Graphic (city centre)
- Digital (Digbeth)
- Product (Jewellery Quarter)
In the Jewellery Quarter, must-see events include:
- “Birmingham Made” at Stans Cafe. Delivered by Quartermasters, it will feature makers from across the city with a range of workshops and talks, opportunities to browse their products, and a full day of family-friendly activities on Sunday 10 June.
- “Renew/Rebuild” discussion panel event at St Paul’s Church featuring Stuart Holt from Javelin Block.
- “Designing with materials & light” talk/Q&A at BCU School of Jewellery.
