JQBID kicking off the Rio Olympics 2016 with a film extravaganza
Reading Time: < 1 minute
This year Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter is bringing a slice of Rio to the Golden Square with a screening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Opening Ceremony. With 203 countries represented, the ceremony is set to be as colourful and spectacular as the carnival Brazil is so famed for.
With the ceremony getting under way at 11:15pm (GMT) on Friday 5th August, the Jewellery Quarter BID (Business Improvement District) has worked with Elonex to place a large screen on the Golden Square, so that sporting fans, residents of the Jewellery Quarter and beyond can come and enjoy the spectacle.
In the run up to the opening ceremony there will also be a select number of films screened from 1:30pm including the aptly named Rio and fan favourite Cool Runnings. Head on down to the square, bring a picnic and enjoy the free line-up of films before the main event.
The screen will continue to show a variety of Olympics events throughout the weekend between 12:30-18:00.
