Assay Office opens doors to its new HQ

Europe’s largest Assay Office has opened the doors to its new purpose-built facility in Moreton Street, in the Jewellery Quarter. The modern headquarters unlocks many new opportunities for Assay Office Birmingham.
The iconic office, which was based in Newhall Street for 137 years before it moved, is known for testing, verifying and hallmarking previous metals, including jewellery and silverware, but has also branched out to offer verifications for fashion accessories, watches and gemstones.
The new facilities, which stretch to almost 6,000 square feet over three floors and a mezzanine, enable the Assay Office to install more new equipment and resources that it will need as it offers more services.
The new home also allows for a more flexible floor plan, which will mean each department will have the space to expand as and when it needs to.
In addition to rehousing its four operational divisions – hallmarking, AnchorCert Analytical, AnchorGem Lab and SafeGuard Valuations – the Assay Office has also introduced training and conference rooms that are open to Birmingham and Jewellery Quarter-based businesses.
