The Jewellery Quarter is the perfect place for families to take a trip down memory lane without even leaving Birmingham City Centre. The combination of museums in historic buildings with family-friendly dining makes the Jewellery Quarter a great day out without leaving the city limits!

The Pen Museum hosts a fascinating collection of pen-nibs and related artefacts describing the history of the steel pen trade in Birmingham. There is a host of engaging exhibits including writing with a pen nib or feather – you can even have a go at making your pen nib using the original machinery.

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is pulling out all the stops with a Family Fun Day, Thursday 22 February from 1 – 3pm! Take a family-friendly guided tour of the Smith & Pepper jewellery factory followed by a fun craft activity.

The Coffin Works is a time-capsule with its original working machinery and factory stock left on the shelves. Explore the sights and sounds of the factory on a guided tour and experience for yourself how this firm once operated on a day-to-day basis while producing some of the world’s finest coffin furniture. Fred the factory cat is the star of the museum’s family trail, with a hidden cat and clues to find.

For something truly unique try Escape Live – can your family solve the clues and escape the locked room in 60 minutes? A fun adventure challenge for the whole family with several themed mysteries to choose from including the “Time Machine” for ages 8 and over – travel through time to solve glitches in the time machine and return safely to the present!

The Jewellery Quarter is well-known its great pubs and restaurants many of whom have dedicated children’s menus including Urban Coffee and The Rose Villa Tavern.
