First World War and Second World War Distinguished Service Cross Medal Group (8) awarded to Cmdr. Reginald Nash will go under the hammer on Friday 30th August 2024 in the Fellows’ Monies, Medals & Militaria auction.

Reginald Nash (1889 – 1966) grew up in Gloucester, Gloucestershire and enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1906. In 1911 Reginald was ranked as Lieutenant and relocated to Aldershot, Hampshire.

Lot 293 features the medal group plus 3 volumes of extracts from the diaries of Cmdr. Nash covering his naval service and a small number of photos. Also, a mahogany boxed brass Naval ruler by C Lee & Son Portsmouth (18ins long) inscribed ‘R Nash RN’ and a pair of brass maritime dividers. They have been entered into the auction with an
estimate of £4,000 to £6,000.

In these journals, Reginald Nash recites his journey and experience of WWI. One of the main stories he recites is the Battle of Heligoland in 1914 and how this resulted in him receiving the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) on 22 June 1917.

Sally Oliver, Coins & Medals Specialist at Fellows, states:

“We are delighted to be offering this superb medal group belonging to Reginald Nash at auction. It is unusual to have such fantastic supporting material such as these diaries which directly describe the events in which Nash won these medals, giving them fascinating context and history, attractive to any collector!”
