Birmingham Heritage Week 2020 Recap
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The annual Birmingham Heritage Week Festival took place from September 10th to 20th to support and promote the city’s rich history.
A huge thank you to all the participants, partners and collaborators for Birmingham Heritage Week 2020! Unfortunately, due to tightening COVID19 restrictions, many of this year’s events like the Kathleen Dayus walking tour had to be cancelled. However we were overwhelmed by the interest and support for all our events this year and hope to come back stronger in 2021.
Panel Talk: The Future of Heritage & The JQ Neighbourhood Plan
We kicked off the Festival with a panel discussion about the future of the area and how the neighbourhood plan may affect it. The event was held at The Hive in partnership with The Birmingham Conservation Trust (BCT). Jack Hanson, trustee of the BCT was the chair and on the panel we had Nicola Fleet-Milne, CEO of FleetMilne Property and Co-Chair of JQ Neighbourhood Plan, Councillor Phil Davies, Birmingham Heritage Champion and JQDT Board Member, and Tina Francis, professional embroidery and tapestry artist based in the JQ.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the live audience for the event and instead streamed the evening live on Instagram. We were overjoyed by the online attendance for this event and the insightful questions posed which really added to the discussion. You can see the video of the whole event below, we apologise for the quality as it was filmed on a mobile phone.
To find out more about the JQ Neighbourhood Plan see our website, and follow them on social media for ongoing updates and consultation events.
Carl Chinn Talk – The Jewellery Quarter: A Hive of Activity
Beloved local historian Carl Chinn took his Zoom audience on a whirlwind tour of the 19th century in Birmingham and the emergence of the Jewellery Quarter as we know it. The audience also had a chance to pose questions for Carl on specific buildings, streets and even businesses. We’ve featured a small clip of Carl’s fantastic talk below. If you’re interested in hiring Carl for an event get in touch with us info@jqdt.org and we will put you in touch!
