Birmingham creative agency first in the Midlands to be B-Corp certified
Reading Time: 2 minutes
An award-winning marketing agency based in central Birmingham has become the first creative agency in the Midlands to achieve B Corporation certification.
Big Cat, which is based in the Jewellery Quarter, was awarded the certification after passing a rigorous assessment of its business practices, demonstrating how it has a positive impact on its employees, suppliers, local community and the environment.
B Corporations – or B Corps – are companies which meet exceptionally high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. They are verified by B Lab, a non-profit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities and the planet.
There are currently only around 600 B Corps across the UK from 55 industries. Big Cat is the very first creative agency in the Midlands to achieve B Corp certification. In order to certify as a B Corp company, performance is analysed across five sectors: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.
Big Cat CEO Anthony Tattum first heard about the B Corporation movement last year and was keen to develop the agency’s already altruistic approach to business to become a greater force for good. Anthony said:Â
Being purpose-driven is what B corporations are all about and that really resonates with what we do at Big Cat. We have built our business around enriching lives and working with brands which are meaningful and purposeful. Our clients share our values, and operate in a way which respects their workers, customers and suppliers, society and the environment, and give back wherever they can. As we do.Â
I wholeheartedly believe the B Corporation movement is the way things have to go for businesses today. We all have to do more to create inclusive business cultures, establish sustainable supply chains and operate in a way which benefits society and the planet. The days of ‘profit whatever the cost’ are numbered; this is the future.
Becoming B Corp wasn’t easy and involved every inch of the business being looked at through a microscope. It took six months for Big Cat to complete the assessment process, which included answering and evidencing around 200 questions. Now that the agency has been certified, it will have to undertake annual reviews and a reassessment every three years to ensure it is upholding the high standards expected of B Corporations.
Established in 2000, Big Cat is a Midlands-based creative marketing agency. The agency builds meaningful brands through collaboration, applied behavioural science and creativity in sectors including health, tech, hospitality and retail.
