Jewellery Quarter Police update

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Statement by Inspector Warren Little following an incident in the JQ yesterday:

Yesterday at approximately 1100 hrs a police operation was conducted in the Jewellery Quarter.  The operation involved armed officers and detectives from West Midlands Police who intercepted a vehicle on Spencer Street and arrested two occupants who were believed to be planning an offence in the area.  During the interception the armed officers used a technique to safely disable the tyres of the suspects’ vehicle to prevent it being able to drive off. This will have been the sounds of  ‘shots’ which were reported by business workers in the area. No shots were discharged in the operation and the suspects were safely arrested.

I have spoken with the Detective Inspector in charge of the investigation and we hope to be able to reveal more details next week.  However, please be reassured that this operation was the result of our ongoing work and commitment to prevent crime and protect the community and businesses of the Jewellery Quarter area.
