TM Bulletin 2 M6 Corridor

Original Story:

Highways England will carry out essential maintenance work to the northbound carriageway over the Rushall viaduct and the M5 to M6 northbound link road. Works are projected to start on 20 February and complete by 13 April. This will include renewing the waterproofing, resurfacing, replacing the expansion joints and concrete repairs to the bridges.

These works will affect the flow of traffic into Birmingham and the Jewellery Quarter, particularly at peak times for workers and residents returning home.

The company stresses that this work is required to ensure the carriageway remains safe for our customers.

“The improvements will help to maintain structural integrity and increase the life of the asset by reducing deterioration and minimising the number of emergency repairs required in future. Our customers will benefit from a safer, more resilient route, and enhanced driver experience.”

This work is part of a continued investment in the strategic road network in the West Midlands. To build a modern, dependable and resilient road network we have planned a package of essential bridge maintenance work across the region. Similar work will also be carried out at the M5 Oldbury viaduct between junction 1 and 2. We have already started preparatory work for this scheme and the main scheme will start after Easter.
