International Women’s Day 2018 Events

International Women’s Day takes place on Thursday 8th March and this year the Jewellery Quarter will be buzzing with activity!

Breaking The Silence is hosting its “Jewels Of The Quarter” event at The Jam House. A free evening of performance, fundraising and networking for local businesses in the Jewellery Quarter to celebrate the women who have overcome domestic violence. Breaking The Silence is a local charity whose aim is to create new and innovative ways to break the silence around domestic abuse, forced marriages and human trafficking. Tickets are free and registration is available via Eventbrite.

The Women’s Jewellery Network, in conjunction with the Assay Office Birmingham, is hosting a social event and panel titled “#NoGlassCeiling” to discuss the changes needed to improve equality within the sector. Tickets are £10 and the proceeds from the event will go to Birmingham women’s charity SmartWorks.

Apex eCommerce is hosting a fantastic event for all women in the digital industries to talk about their experiences and struggles and hear from others how they have overcome the obstacles in their path. “Girl Code: A Home For Digital Lovers” will be hosted at 1000 Trades. Tickets are free but registration is recommend.

Later on this year, Birmingham Jazz’s annual Legends Festival will be returning with a “Women in Jazz” theme. Held across April and May, the festival is marking the 100th  anniversary of voting rights for women through celebrating the contribution of female musicians and singers in jazz.
