Heritage Open Day

Visit our ‘time capsule’ factory and experience how this Jewellery Quarter firm once produced some of the world’s finest coffin furniture. The shelves and workbenches at Newman Brothers are full of original stock and tools of the trade. With the original machinery working again, you can truly experience how this old Jewellery Quarter firm once operated on a day-to-day basis, producing some of the world’s finest coffin furniture, including the fittings for the funerals of Churchill, Chamberlain and the Queen Mother, amongst many others.

This year Heritage Open Days are celebrating ‘People Power’ so we’ll be celebrating all the volunteers that make the Coffin Works special and make Heritage Open Days possible – with a team of 10 volunteers on the day alone, to help with extra visitors and tours!

Tours last around 1 hour and there is always an extremely high demand for tours on Heritage Open day, we run tours every 30 minutes rather than hourly to help with this, but places are limited to 15 per tour due to the nature of the site. Pre-booking as far in advance as possible is strongly advised because tours are always fully booked on the day.
