Easter may be over Early this year, but April is still jam packed with things to do this month in the Jewellery Quarter

JQ Beer Weekend

Friday 19th to Sunday 21st April across the Jewellery Quarter!
After last year’s success, we are bringing back the JQ Beer Weekend. The premise is simple – 3 days, 24 venues, buy a drink in any 6 to collect your free beer weekend t-shirt!

RBSA Gallery

From the 29th Feburary until the 7th April, RBSA is running two fantastic exhibitions. The RBSA Print Prize is a biennale exhibition, which celebrates all forms of print making and Drawing on the RBSA Collection – Dry Media Works 1822-2022 pulls wonderful artworks from the RBSA collection which use pencils, pastels and charcoal over the last 200 years.

Then on 11th April until 28th April, the hotly anticipated RBSA Candidates Exhibition is here – across two floors, showcasing works for artists who hope to be inducted into the society as Associates, or are ready to apply for full Membership. Representing the future of the RBSA Membership, the exhibition features both traditional and contemporary work resulting in an exciting and diverse show.

The Hive

March is a busy month at The Hive. The Book Club is back on the 19th April as is the fantastic monthly creative workshop HABITS on Friday 26th March.
They are also running a brilliant ‘found poetry’ workshop on 16th April.

Stryx Gallery

Stryx are going from strength to strength with their new commercial Gallery in the JQ opening on Monday 15th April and the continuation of the popular Home Grown Community Open Exhibition until 27th April. Their current window residency artist Katherine Howes is running the next free workshop called Origami Eyes workshop on Saturday 6th April. They are also starting a Kids Stay and Play every Friday from 1.30pm till 3pm in the Café – which we know will be extremely popular with parents whose children are aged 5 and under.

The Coffin Works

As well as their regular tours and self-guided experiences, The Coffin Works are kicking off April with a special ‘Architec-tour‘ on Easter Monday (1st April) exploring the history of the building itself. They also have Don’t Go Into The Cellar back with the ever popular and gruesome Sweeney Todd on 4th April. There’s also a City of 1000 Trades walking tour on 14th April.

The Pen Museum

The Pen Museum continue with their mission to teach everyone beautiful penmanship with calligraphy workshops on the 7th April and 28th April.

The Friends of Key Hill and Warstone Lane Cemeteries

Monthly tours of Key Hill and Warstone Lane are always popular, and they look especially pretty with carpets of crocuses and sunny daffodils.  There is also a volunteer litter pick every month if you want to help keep them looking beautiful. The lighter evenings also mean that evening tours are back!

Assay Office

The Birmingham Assay Office has been hallmarking and assaying for 250 years. There’s now a chance for your to explore every month during their Discovery Day and they are also bringing back their ever popular Afternoon Teas on the 15th May.

Gulp

Gulp is a one-of-a-kind meeting, dining and creative space for curious appetites with a taste for the extraordinary. In April their monthly networking event for creative women- C. U. Next Tuesday will be on Tuesday 30th April with a special event.

Blue Orange Theatre

Blue Orange Theatre are bringing panto back – for Easter! Yes, affordable family panto from 29th March to 7th April with Dick Whittington. Then for the adults, Pottervision: Secret in The Chamber – the Harry Potter parody is back with a new installment on 9th April.

St Pauls Church JQ

St Paul’s are restarting their FREE lunchtime concert series with students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, starting on Thursday 11th April with harp and piano. There are some wonderful evening events coming up too. On the Saturday 6th April, there is a Tribute to Studio Ghibli, intimate piano concert, and on Saturday 27th April, John Bramwell and the Full Harmonic Trio are back with spellbinding new songs.
