When you decide to purchase that special item of jewellery, what exactly are you looking for?  Are you looking for a birthday gift, a treat for yourself, or that once in a lifetime token of love?  Whichever reason it is you can be sure to find it in the form of Gold.

Gold is the only yellow metal to occur naturally and was formed millions of years ago by extreme pressure and movement deep within the earth’s crust.  Gold is extremely versatile and malleable so lends itself well to making beautiful items of jewellery.

Gold in its purest form is 24 carat (0.999).  In the west most jewellers produce jewellery in 18 carat (0.750), 14 carat (0.585) and 9 carat (0.375).  18ct gold is 18 out of 24 parts pure with special alloys making up the rest.  This produces the beautiful rich colour.  9ct gold is well known for its durability.  White Gold and Rose Gold are also extremely popular choices for jewellery today.  All forms of gold have a wonderful lustre and colour and can enhance the beauty of many precious and semi precious gemstones.

Gold jewellery is bought for many reasons and comes in all styles from a simple gold wedding band, a delicately crafted bracelet to an ornate heavyweight necklace.  Gold has been treasured for many generations and thought of as an investment in many countries who base their economies on gold.  It has been given with great sentiment for many reasons.  What better way to say “thank you”, “sorry” or most of all “I Love You”?  Wherever you look in the world this noble metal is extremely sought after.

Other great metals for jewellery are platinum and silver.  Platinum has become extremely popular, one of the reasons being that it is the hardest precious metal known to man.  Due to the scarcity of platinum it is at a record price at present.

A much less expensive metal, but equally pleasing to the eye is silver.  Like gold, silver is extremely versatile and a pleasure to work with.

Gold means many things to many people and we are sure that whatever you are looking for, you will find it here in Birmingham’s Famous Jewellery Quarter.
