World Heritage Status
The Jewellery Quarter is to be put forward for World Heritage status according to Birmingham City Council. The process is a lengthy one and preparatory work will commence when new bidding guidance is available from central government in Autumn 2008.
Whilst it is a lengthy process it will focus both the public and private sectors and the local community in ensuring the area continues to be improved to meet the exacting standards that will be demanded.
It should also boost the economy as a recent survey showed that the Top Ten most visited UK attractions all had World Heritage Site status.
