Matthew Boulton
Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) is one of the few figures of world significance associated with Birmingham. He was an innovator, visionary, industrialist and intellectual. His influence on the Industrial Revolution and his contribution to the English Enlightenment make him a key figure in the creation of the modern world. 2009 is the bicentenary of Boulton’s death, and this anniversary provides the city of Birmingham with a major opportunity to commemorate and celebrate Boulton’s historical significance, and in particular to raise his profile nationally and internationally. The Boulton 2009 celebrations will consist of a range of events, exhibitions and on-line resources aimed at achieving this end.
